CAF, FIFA move Mali matches
All remaining Orange CAF Cup home legs for Malian clubs will be played in Burkina Faso, Super Sport reported on Monday (May 7th). CAF made the decision after the closure of the Bamako airport left Egypt's Al Ahly and Nigerian side Sunshine Stars stranded in Mali. Al Ahly flew home on an Egyptian military plane, but the Nigerians were stuck for days in a Bamako hotel.
Before May 13th, Wydad Casablanca are scheduled to face Bamako-based side AS Real in the return leg of the 1/8-finals. The Moroccans won the first leg 3-0.
FIFA also relocated Algeria's World Cup qualifier against Mali to Burkina Faso. The move followed an official request from FAF. The Group H match will be played in Ouagadougou on June 9th.
In related news Monday, FIFA announced that Algeria and visitors Rwanda would play their World Cup Group H qualifier on June 2nd. The Greens will host Niger on May 26th for a friendly at Blida's Mustapha Tchaker stadium.
