American wins sixth stage as Dakar Rally enters Mauritania

American Robby Gordon, driving a Hummer, won the sixth 817km stage of the Dakar Rally on Thursday (January 11th) from Tan-Tan in Morocco to Zouerat in Mauritania. He finished ahead of France's Jean-Louis Schlesser and South Africa's Giniel De Villiers. In motorcycles, Spain's Jordi Villadoms with KTM was first, ahead of compatriot and race leader Marc Coma and American Chris Blais. In the overall standings, Spain's Carlos Sainz and Coma maintained their lead in cars and bikes respectively.

In the fifth 768km stage between Ouarzazate and Tan-Tan stage on Wednesday, Isidre Esteve Pujol and Carlos Sainz won the motorbike and car sections respectively.

Friday's stage will progress over 580km from Zouerat to Atar in Mauritania, with a 542km special. (Reuters, AFP, Supersport)
