Foreign minister says Spain working towards final solution to Western Sahara issue
Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said his country "fully and efficiently works at the side of the concerned parties to find a final solution in the near future" to the Western Sahara issue. Appearing on an Al-Jazeera talk show Thursday (1 September), he indicated Spain has a vital interest in the outcome.
Moratinos also hailed the release of the 404 Moroccan detainees, the appointment of a new Algerian ambassador to Morocco, the nomination of a new UN special envoy to Western Sahara, and recent reforms in Morocco.
He described an upcoming Moroccan-Spanish summit as "proof of the excellent relations that unites us with Morocco". He added the event "requires the two countries to engage in a joint action in the future". (MAP)
