Mali seeks Algerian mediation
High-level Malian officials visited Algeria this week to discuss a peaceful solution to their country's crisis, Liberte reported on Wednesday (May 30th).
"Our visit aims to explore the possibilities of an early return of peace and restoring security in Mali," the unnamed senior army officers and diplomat said.
Talks reportedly focused on opening a dialogue with representatives of all ethnic groups in the Azawad region, who share the idea of "maintaining the unity and integrity of Mali".
The armed groups now controlling northern Mali "do not represent the population", the delegation members said.
