Ousted Mali president flees to Senegal
Mali's ousted President Amadou Toumani Toure took refuge with his entire family in Senegal on Thursday (April 19th), AFP reported. Military sources said Toure had departed with the agreement of coup leader Captain Amadou Haya Sanogo. Soldiers posted at the airport had initially refused to let him leave.
It was not immediately known if Toure, 63, would stay in Senegal or was just passing through.
Toure formally stepped down earlier this month as part of a deal brokered by West African bloc ECOWAS. A transitional administration will oversee a return to democracy.
