Moroccan rapper 'El-Haqed' faces new trial
Moroccan rapper Mouad Belghouat, 24, known as "El-Haqed," was arrested Friday (March 30th) in Casablanca for allegedly insulting the police in a song, AFP reported. While "Dogs of the State" was released more than a year ago, a recent video clip prompted new defamation charges, RFI reported.
Belghouat, a member of the youth-led February 20 Movement (M20F), spent four months in prison last year on charges of assaulting a counter-protester. "Thanks to rap, I have committed myself to the people and its hardships. Our demands are huge," he told AFP after his release in January.
His next hearing is slated for April 4th.
