Algiers hosts Arab Women's Organisation
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday (February 22nd) addressed the High Council of the Arab Women Organisation (AWO) at its meeting in Algiers.
Recent profound changes in social structures have "allowed Arab women to actively participate in the process of reform and development in the Arab world", the president told the AWO council.
In Algeria, a new provision in the constitution encourages the state to promote the political rights of women and broaden their representation in elected assemblies, President Bouteflika said.
The president also noted the AWO's "commendable initiative to harness the power of serious dialogue with young people".
