Libyan Amazighs protest in Tripoli

Libya's minority Amazigh residents rallied Sunday (November 27th) in Tripoli, stepping up pressure to be represented in the interim government, AFP reported. Hundreds of men, women and children participated in the march, waving their blue, green and yellow flag.

"We are marching to the prime minister's office to... ask why our representative was not included in the new Libyan government and also demanding that our language be officially recognised," said lawyer Milod Ahmed, a member of the National Amazigh Congress.

On Wednesday, National Transitional Council (NTC) head Mustafa Abdel Jalil met with an Amazigh delegation in Tripoli to hear Libyan Amazigh complaints. A minority nationwide, the Amazighs form a majority in the north western Nafusa mountains, in the Zuwarah region west of Tripoli and in Ghadames province on the frontier with Algeria.
