Former Libyan prime minister former Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Ali Al-Mahmoudi failed to appear Friday (November 25th) at a Tunis court hearing to fight an extradition order, AFP reported.

According to his attorney Mabrouk Kourchid, Al-Mahmoudi asked the court to be excused from the proceedings after receiving written death threats from Libyans.

A Tunisian appellate court earlier this month approved Al-Mahmoudi's extradition to Libya, a ruling that he is battling on the grounds that he formally applied for refugee status.

The 70-year-old, Libya's prime minister until the final days of the Kadhafi regime, was arrested September 21st in Tamaghza while attempting to cross into Algeria. He was convicted of illegal entry and sentenced to six months in prison.
