Tunisia releases official election results
Official results of the October 23rd Tunisian elections were released on Monday (November 14th), AFP reported. According to Tunisia's Independent High Electoral Commission (ISIE), Islamist political party Ennahda won 89 of the 217 seats in the new Constituent Assembly, followed by 29 seats for the left-wing Congress for the Republic (CPR) and 26 seats for London-based businessman Hechmi Haamdi's party Al-Aridha Chaabia (People's Petition for Freedom, Justice and Development). Other large blocks of seats were won by Ettakatol (20) and the PDP (16). The participation rate for the historic poll was 54.1%, the ISIE reported.
The Constituent Assembly will convene for the first time on November 22nd.
