Ban briefs UN on Libya trip
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday (November 10th) briefed the General Assembly about his recent trip to Libya. Ban said he was deeply impressed by Libya's commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and to empowering women and youth, the UN News Centre reported.
"Our visit sent a very important message of support and goodwill from the membership of the United Nations General Assembly and the entire UN system, for the Government and people of Libya at this critical moment in their nation's history," said General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser of Qatar, who accompanied Ban to Libya.
The November 2nd trip, which had not been announced for security reasons, included a visit to a mass grave and a meeting with families of people killed by Kadhafi forces.
