New mass graves discovered in Libya
The bodies of 900 people were discovered in two mass graves near Tripoli, Al Arabiya reported on Wednesday (October 5th). According to Tripoli security chief Naji al-Issawi, a grave in Gargaresh – a coastal town seven kilometres from the capital - contained some 200 corpses. Another grave in the rural town of Birasta Milad (10k from Tripoli) contained 700 bodies. Officials believe the remains are those of people killed during the fighting in the capital city.
Last month, the National Transitional Council announced the discovery of a mass grave in Tripoli containing the bodies of more than 1,270 inmates killed in the 1996 Abu Salim prison massacre.
