AU Libya committee mum on NTC recognition
The African Union committee on Libya is committed to working with the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) and "all other Libyan stakeholders" to establish an "all-inclusive national unity government" and rebuild the country, South Africa's BUA News reported on Wednesday (September 14th). "The ad-hoc Committee reiterated its readiness to work with the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, the European Union and NATO to ensure co-ordinated support to the Libyan people," the panel said in a statement after meeting Wednesday in Pretoria.
The AU committee fell short, however, of officially recognising the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC). Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz chairs the committee, which includes the heads of states from Republic of Congo, Mali, Uganda and South Africa.
