Libyan refugees return from Tunisia
More than 70% of Libyan refugees in Tunisia have returned to their homes, NATO announced in Brussels on Tuesday (August 16th). Some one million refugees have fled to Tunisia and Egypt since the start of the Libya conflict.
Meanwhile, at least 2,000 refugees from Libya and Tunisia arrived at the week-end on the Italian island of Lampedusa, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Tuesday. Most of them sailed from Janzour, 12km west of Tripoli. Some 52,000 Libyan and Tunisian refugees have arrived in Italy since the beginning of the year. At least 1,500 people lost their lives during the dangerous journey, the UNHCR said.
