'Carthage Airport' trial resumes
The twice-postponed trial of 22 relatives of ousted Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and wife Leila Trabelsi resumed Wednesday (August 10th) in Tunis. In what has been dubbed the "Carthage Airport" case, the Ben Ali and Trabelsi family members are charged with unlawfully attempting to flee the country, possessing large sums of foreign currency without authorisation from the Central Bank, jewel trafficking and credit card fraud. The court is also hearing the complicity and forgery trial of former Ben Ali security chief Ali Seriate, who was arrested at the El Aouina military airport the same day that the ex-president's relatives were apprehended in Carthage.
