Algeria, Italy back 'rapid' solution for Libya
Algeria and Italy support a "rapid political solution leading to peace, stability and democracy in Libya," Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said after meeting Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Algiers on Tuesday (July 12th), APS reported.
Frattini and his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci also met Tuesday to discuss counter-terrorism efforts. The Italian foreign minister noted the "key" role played by Algeria in fighting terrorism and protecting security in the Sahel.
"Algeria, which was able to face a tragic past against terrorist organisations, is now creating and co-ordinating a regional strategy to which Italy participates willingly," Liberte quoted Frattini as saying.
