Ould Sidi Mouloud free in Mauritania
Former Polisario Police Inspector-General Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud was released Tuesday in Mauritania to the care of the UN High Commission for Refugees, Sahara Media reported on Wednesday (December 1st). According to Morocco's permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Ambassador Omar Hilale, Ould Sidi Mouloud was released about 90km northwest of Zouerate. He then went to Nouakchott for "a confidential interview with the representative of UNHCR on his chosen country of residence", Hilale said.
Polisario police arrested their former chief for treason last September after he returned to the Tindouf camps in Algeria to mobilise support for Morocco's Western Sahara autonomy proposal. Ould Sidi Mouloud's arrest prompted an international outcry from free speech and human rights activists.
