Mauritania convicts French family slaying suspect
The first of twelve suspects now standing trial in Mauritania for the 2007 murder of a French tourist family near Aleg was sentenced Sunday (May 16th) to six years hard labour. Abdallahi Ould Mohamed Sidya was among three Salafist prison inmates who declared repentance for the Aleg killings after participating in a "spiritual dialogue" with moderate Islamic scholars last January.
The accused perpetrators of the 2008 Israeli embassy attack in Nouakchott are also scheduled to go on trial.
