Freed Algerian AQIM hostage arrested in Niger
Algeria extradited Abidine Ouaghi to Niger to face charges of complicity in the April 21st kidnapping of an elderly Frenchman, AFP reported Sunday (May 16th). The Algerian national was allegedly seized by terrorists while driving Michel Germaneau, 78, in northern Niger. He was released unharmed four days later in the Malian desert. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) last week demanded the release of prisoners in exchange for Germaneau's life.
