Tounsi family disputes official reports of killing
The family of slain Algerian national security (DGSN) chief Ali Tounsi on Wednesday (March 3rd) spoke out against the official version of his shooting by Colonel Chaib Oultache last week at DGSN headquarters, local and international press reported. On Tuesday, Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni said that the murder had occurred "without witnesses" and was simply a personal "matter between two men". In response, Tounsi's family issued a statement characterising the official conclusions as "misleading and premature".
Tounsi "did not have any problem with his killer, nor with anyone else," his relatives asserted. "The deceased was killed in cold blood, in a cowardly and deliberate manner in his office, just before a meeting with [DGSN division] directors," Liberte quoted the family's statement as saying.
