Algeria to try released Guantanamo prisoners for terrorism
Five former Guantanamo prisoners will be tried for terrorism by an Algiers court on October 15th, Tout sur l'Algerie reported on Saturday (October 3rd). Bechar native Mustapha Hamlili, Sofiane Hadriache of Algiers, Abdelkader Tirari of Tiaretr and Abbar El Houari of Oran face prosecution on charges of belonging to a terrorist group operating abroad. The fifth defendant, Ahmed Belbacha, will be tried in absentia, since he chose to be transferred to Great Britain upon his release.
