Former UN weapons inspector hails Algerian role in nuclear arms control
Speaking during a visit to Algiers on Sunday (March 9th), former UN Chief Weapons Inspector in Iraq Hans Blix praised Algeria's role in the field of nuclear non-proliferation. "Algeria has a major role to play, owing to its scientific knowledge in the nuclear field and its position in mediations favouring the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," Blix said, following a meeting with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Blix told reporters that his meeting with Bouteflika covered the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes such as the generation of electricity.
