Daewoo wins $845m power plant deal in Libya
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has awarded an $845m contract to Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co for the construction of two combined cycle power plants. The plants will be built in the cities of Benghazi and Misurata, east of Tripoli. The projects, estimated at $393m and $452m respectively, are expected to yield a production capacity of 750 megawatts at each plant. Ground will be broken in July and the projects are due to be completed in early 2011.
