Debate between Mauritanian presidential candidates to be held on Friday

A debate between Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi and Ahmed Ould Daddah, the two candidates in Mauritania's presidential run-off, has been scheduled on state television for Friday (March 24th). Questions for the debate will touch on the candidates' programmes, their visions on the issues of national unity, education, health and the economy. Both candidates will also discuss their positions on international and regional matters, including the Western Sahara issue and relations with Israel.

On Monday evening, Messaoud Ould Boulkheir, who obtained 9.9% of the votes in the first round of the elections, pledged his support to Abdellahi. Mohamed Ould Maouloud, who received 4.8% of the round-one vote, and several other candidates gave their support to Daddah. (AMI, Mauritanie-web.com, PANA)
