US Undersecretary of State for General Diplomacy Karen Hughes said that many countries could benefit from Algeria's experience in fighting terrorism. Speaking to reporters on Saturday (February 24th) during a short visit to Algiers, Hughes praised the "excellent and important co-operation" between the United States and Algeria in the areas of economy, security and education. She described talks with Foreign Minister Mohammed Bedjaoui as "positive and fruitful," adding that the visit helped her get acquainted with Algeria's position towards challenging questions for the United States such as Iraq and the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
