Algiers wants to be 2007 Arab Cultural Capital
Algiers wants to become the Arab Cultural Capital for 2007, Algerian Culture Minister Kalida Toumi said Wednesday (2 August) at the opening of the 16th edition of the Oran Rai Music Festival. She said the government plans to spend 50m euros for the purpose and include all 48 Algerian regions in the initiative. Toumi explained the programme for next year would screen 22 Arab films, 11 new television films and 30 documentaries, 27 new performances of regional theatres, as well as hold contemporary art exhibitions.
