UN resolution extends MINURSO mandate in Western Sahara
Resolution 1634, adopted unanimously on Friday (28 October) by the UN Security Council, extended the UN Mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) mandate until April 2006. Thus, the UN Security Council reaffirmed its determination to help parties reach a fair, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the Western Sahara dispute.
The Council asked Secretary-General Kofi Annan to submit a report on the situation in Western Sahara before the end of the mandate of the mission. It also asked envoy Peter Van Walsum to report in three months about strides made in the work of MINURSO. (APS, MAP)
