Ennahda chief visits Algeria

Ennahda leader Rachid Ghannouchi this week paid a three-day visit to Algeria, where he met with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and various party leaders.

"We do not want an Islam which denies democracy and the arts," Ghannouchi said Monday (November 21st) after meeting with Society Movement of Peace (MSP) chairman Bouguerra Soltani in Algiers. "Our vision feeds on a combination of Islam, democracy and modernity."

Ghannouchi, who spent the first few years of his exile in Algeria before being asked to leave the country when the security crisis struck, emphasised the "excellent" nature of relations between Algeria and Tunisia. These relations would be "even better in the new era of the Jasmine Revolution", he said.

Bouteflika congratulated the Islamist party on their electoral achievements, before paying homage to the Tunisian revolution.

"Tunisia has provided the model for peaceful transition," he said.

The Algerian president promised his guest that he would work for development in the border zones.

One of Ghannouchi’s colleagues, who attended the meeting, revealed to El Khabar that the Libyan issue was discussed at length, with Ghannouchi reassuring Bouteflika that "there was no reason to doubt the intentions and political plans of the new Libyan government".

The Ennahda chairman went on to express his view that “relations between Algeria and Tunisia bode well for the future of the whole Maghreb region".

During his stay, the leader of the Islamist party was received by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia as well, but there were no meetings with the opposition.

The Labour Party (PT), the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) and the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD) all said that they had not asked to see him.

In another development in Algerian-Tunisian relations, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki and Tunisian Constituent Assembly leader Hamadi Jebali are to undertake their first official visit to Algeria in the near future, according to L’Expression.

To Young Algerian(s)- “President Boutaflika”. Only a Moroccan would write the name of the elected President Abdelaziz Bouteflika that way. He is our esteemed and respected president, elected by the sovereign Algerian people! To all those who are jealous, democracy is an ideal that is shared. So elect your next president! Do a little revolution, finally… finally!

Young Algerian(s) wrote “A clear message to Mr. Pres. Boutaflika and the Algerian Army: Lessons learned from what is happening in North-Africa Middle East: 1. Democratize or Perish …” You should call this: “A stupid lesson repeated stupidly by a stupid bunny on the Internet, who is as young as he is venal and inexperienced. Go get an education. Study international relations and history. You will know what you are talking about afterward. Do not venture to speak in the name of the Algerian youth. Personally, I do not accept that a nutcase, who repeats the dominating propaganda, speaks in my name. I suggest that you study the constitutions of various countries like Morocco, France and our own and tell us what you get out of it. You are a servile ignoramus! The Algeria’s youth are more politicised than you will ever be. You have nothing to tell us, boy!

A clear message to Mr. Pres. Boutaflika and the Algerian Army: Lessons learned from what is happening in North-Africa Middle East: 1. Democratize or Perish : Algerian People is mature for democracy and will not accept less than democracy. 2. Invest in the capacity building, modernization and industrialization of Algeria in order to create jobs for young Algerians. 3. A new democratic liberal constitution, a new elected President, a New elected Parliament, A new elected Senat. 4. Teach Government officers, Army and Police at all levels to respect and serve citizens. It is their "reason d'etre." 5. Reform the eduaction system and adopt international standards, inculcate the culture of democracy earlier in pupils at schools . . . 6. Acountability and transparency in all public affairs(financial issues.) 7. Inprove the healthcare quality everywhere in Algeria(including in remote villages.) 8. Set up a modern technological army to defend Algeria from enemies who are everywhere, and build a miltary industry. 9. Let Algerians work, innovate and produce, through the creation of thousands of small to middle size compagnies. 10. perform 1 to 9 before it is late Nedlessly, to remind all that our fathers and motherns fought the colonialist to build a free, democractic and strong country. Islam is fully compatible with Democracy. Democracy is a tool and mechanism to ensure power's alternance.
