Bizertin top in Tunisia, ES Setif extend Algeria lead

CA Bizertin held on to their top spot in Tunisia's Ligue 1 in Day 9 action played Saturday and Sunday (March 3rd-4th).

Playing at home, CAB failed to dazzle their fans with an eighth victory, tying with Stade Tunisien 1-1. The draw left the league leaders with 23 points while Stade Tunisien stand near the bottom with 11 points.

"We had our eyes set on winning and we were indeed the better team in the game," said Stade Tunisien player Marouane Tej after the match. "But they were able to offset the score, and that is the rule of the game."

Club Africain failed to defeat ES Zarzis, who grabbed a precious point when the game ended in a goalless draw. ES Zarzis currently rank 12th with a total of nine points.

Meanwhile, US Monastir were unable to halt the progress of EGS Gafsa, forcing them into a 1-1 tie. The draw dropped Gafsa to fifth place with 15 points, whereas US Monastir rose to 10th with nine points.

Esperance Tunis, meanwhile, snatched their fourth consecutive victory, defeating ES Hamam-Sousse 2-0. Taraji rank fourth with a total of 16 points while ESHS languish in last place.

Etoile du Sahel defeated Olympique Béja 2-1. ESS now boast 17 points, two points below the second-ranking team, whereas Olympique Béja are stuck at the 11th place with eight points.

Near the bottom of the table, ES Béni Khalled defeated AS Gabes 2-0. The win lands Beni Khalled in 13th place with six points, while Gabès were left at 15th with four points.

Entente de Setif top Ligue 1

Meanwhile in Day 21 play in Algeria's Ligue 1, Entente de Setif extended their lead over their nearest rivals, USM Alger.

ESS defeated AS Khroub 2-0 on Saturday (March 3rd), putting them out front by three points.

Second-place USMA stayed among the front-runners, consolidating their position by beating WA Tlemcen 2-1.

JS Kabylie were unable to overcome MC El Eulma at home in Tizi Ouzou, with a 1-1 draw. This was the fourth home draw for JSK, who are seventh with 30 points.

NA Hussein Dey comfortably won the Algiers derby, beating USM El Harrach 2-0. Despite the win, NAHD are still sixteenth and at the bottom of the table with 16 points. The loss was the third in a row for USMH, leaving them in ninth with 29 points.

In other match ups, MC Saida beat CR Belouizdad 2-0, despite the sudden departure of their manager, Mustapha Hedane. JSM Bejaia beat CA Batna 1-0 at home last Tuesday.

CS Constantine trounced MC Oran 3-1 at home. The win leaves CSC eighth in the table, while MC Oran dropped a place and are now one from bottom with 19 points.

The last Day 21 game will kick off at 17:45 on Tuesday between hosts ASO Chlef and MC Alger.

CF Cansado lead in Mauritania

In Mauritania's semi-professional football league, leaders CF Cansado continued to dominate their opponents, defeating Entente de Sebkha 2-1 at home. The Day 14 win for Cansado leaves them in first with 32 points.

"Playing this kind of game against a team that's low down in the rankings is always difficult, but the young players did well and responded well at the end of the game," CF Cansado manager M'Bodj Babacar told Magharebia.

Entente de Sebkha are still languishing near the bottom of the table with nine points.

In other Day 14 matches, ASAC Concorde continued their comeback by easily overcoming Ligwareb 3-0, putting them in second with 29 points. With just nine points, Ligwareb are still in danger of being relegated to Division 2.

Meanwhile, hosts Tevragh-Zeina secured a 4-1 win over ASC Kedia, giving T. Zeina 29 points. ASC Kedia remain with 16 points.

FC Nouadhibou recovered at home by beating ASC Armee. This win gave the top team from Nouadhibou a total of 29 points. ASC Armee are still in the middle of the table with 18 points.

ASC Ksar drew 1-1 with ASC Tidjikja. ASC Ksar now have 19 points and Tidjikja have 24 points. Police and Lasa, who are at the bottom of the table, likewise drew 1-1. Police now have 16 points and Lasa are last with 8 points.

Finally, Nasr Zem Zem achieved a narrow 1-0 victory over an uninspired Imraguens. The victory gave Zem Zem some breathing space, leaving them with 10 points, while Imraguens have 14 points.
