Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf was born in 1957 in Nema. He belongs to the Moorish ethnic group and served as the country's ambassador to Belgium and the European Union in the period between 2006 and 2009. He was appointed prime minister by President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz on August 14, 2008.
