2009-11-05
Mauritania on Wednesday (November 4th) launched a large-scale campaign to eradicate begging, ANI reported. The programme will offer vocational training centres, food and social welfare resources to help beggars rebuild their lives. As part of the "Combatting Begging is the Job For All" campaign, three shelters with a total capacity of 600 beds were opened in the Nouakchott neighbourhoods of Sebkha, Arafat and Dar Naim. Some 2,000 beggars have been registered thus far in the capital city of Nouakchott.
