Algeria seeks to avert teachers' strike
2009-11-01
In an effort to prevent a strike by secondary school teachers, Algeria will open a dialogue with several of their autonomous unions, Tout sur l'Algerie quoted Education Minister Aboubekeur Benbouzid as saying on Saturday (October 31st). The CNAPEST, CLA and SNAPEST unions plan to begin a simultaneous strike on November 8th. The teachers seek a review of wages, benefits, and what they claim is an overloaded curriculum caused by the change in week-end days.

I am an elementary school student. I am on strike. I am calling for my rights, which were violated wrongly. There is no other solution but a strike. Should we set fire to tires in the streets and damage property? This is, unfortunately, what our authorities understand.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you. [From] your brother in God, a teacher of the elementary education. In view of the harsh conditions facing Algerian teachers, particularly in the province of Bordj Bouarriredj, we can only stand like one man to avoid catastrophe. Notwithstanding curricula which consider pupils lab mice, in addition to the unreasonable exploitation of the teacher, who uses up his low salary by the end of the month, and the failure to consult him, whether directly or indirectly, in adopting educational curricula, even though he's the first one concerned in the educational process. Happy Eid in advance.

I am a main student in the primary education. I am participating in the strike which wasn't approved by the government. In this way, it encourages the unacceptable violence and barbarism.
