Andalusian music festival opens in Essaouira
2009-10-30
The 6th annual Andalusian music festival in the Moroccan city of Essaouira opened on Thursday (October 29th). This year's edition will focus on the Moroccan-Jewish musical tradition of "Matrouz" (embroidered poetry) and feature music from rabbi-singer Haim Louk, Franco-Algerian pianist Maurice El Medioni, singer Raymonde El Badaouia and other local and international performers. The event brings "our poets, our musicians and our singers, Muslim and Jewish, to sing and dance together", said André Azoulay, the Jewish-Moroccan festival director and senior advisor to King Mohammed VI.
