The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will soon repatriate the last remaining Mauritanian refugees from Senegal, the UN news agency announced on Saturday (October 24th). Between 5,000 and 7,000 refugees will be repatriated by the end of 2009. More than 14,000 Mauritanian victims of ethnic violence have returned from Senegal since 1989. The UN report added that some 8000 of the 12,000 Mauritanian refugees in Mali have also expressed interest in returning to their home country.
