UN calls for more Western Sahara talks
2009-10-15
The United Nations General Assembly 4th Committee on Wednesday (October 14th) adopted a draft resolution reaffirming its support for the negotiations to resolve the issue of Western Saharan sovereignty, local media reported. The document, to be endorsed at the next assembly session, also calls on countries involved in the negotiations to prepare for a more intensive round of talks. The Moroccan mission welcomed the draft resolution, saying in a statement that "this consensus…reflects the shared viewpoints of both the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly over the fundamentals of the political solution sought by the international community".

In order to resolve this situation, we need to make an appeal for reconciliation. This necessitates the intervention of all of the countries in the world, particularly the Arab countries. Moreover, our neighbour, Algeria, needs to change its policies towards Morocco. We are neighbours and will be so for eternity, up until the end of the world. The Moroccans cannot give up a single grain of sand of their territorial integrity, from Tangier to El Gara. In order to avoid the stagnation of this situation and to move things along for the reinforcement of the Greater Maghreb, autonomy is the only adequate solution.

I do not understand why our Moroccan neighbours persist in keeping this territory, which does not belong to them. They invaded it in 1975 with the complicity of Spain, which does not want us to talk about Melilla and Ceuta. These latter are Moroccan!!! What are you waiting for to ask for their autonomy? I would like to have an answer from a Moroccan on the sharing of the Western Sahara with Mauritania after its invasion: if this is a Moroccan territory – as they pretend – then why share it with another country? Who can answer me that? I would be delighted. Since the Moroccans pretend that the Sahrawis agree about autonomy, then why are they not being consulted like international law on self-determination would have it. Here in Algeria, we call this “despotism” against a defenceless people. But, not a single country, not even the Western Sahara, will remain colonised. This is a waste of the poor Moroccans time and money, which Hassan II and Mohamed VI were and still are losing and wasting. (Morocco has $50 billion in debt.) And, all this just so that one day the will of this planet’s free people will rid the Western Sahara of these kidnappers’ hands. A word to the wise! -Ziam

The arms race: Algerians generals are preparing for something. May be a surprise attack against the Moroccan southern regions under the cover of the Polisario. This is a doubt I have. Or why all these arms and its heavy costs? You know that Polisario cost Algeria about three hundred billion dollars. Therefore, we mustn't laugh to ourselves but we should be ready to defend the unity of the nation and territorial integrity of the kingdom of Morocco. Therefore, I recommend the preservation of military balance and armament. The Algerian supremacy is not in the interest of the nation. As long as they keep on feeling strong, they will keep on being a threat and attack the Moroccan people. I hope from the European Organization for Security and Cooperation to review the issue of armament.

We must know what the Algerian politicians are looking for. Is it an independent state of 200 thousand people? Is it searching to seize this region? I think that Morocco is well-placed in the region’s strategic stakes. Morocco is the country in the region that is best placed to play this role given its roots in history and its international relations with the great powers. The Sahara is indeed Moroccan and it will remain so. As such, our neighbours know well that the Sahara is Moroccan. During the 1974 Arab Summit in Rabat, the late Boumedienne announced this. So, why such the turnaround?

To Solo. I know your mindsets are programmed like those of robots. You can't change them without the authorisation of your friend. The Polisario is the product of Boumediene and Bouteflika. Then Algeria did the publicity, used all its weight, its material, military and political resources, exploiting its echoes during the Cold War. It made many countries believe that Polisario is a liberation movement. But the game was uncovered afterwards. It became clear that these are not refugees, they were deluded. If they had freedom of choice, they would all have come back to their country, Morocco. Ould Ghilane, Dakhla, Cherifian Kingdom of Morocco.
