2009-09-16
The main African Satellite Control Centre (QAF1) opened this week in Gariyan, 80km south of Tripoli, PANA reported on Tuesday (September 15th). Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi put the centre into service on Monday by launching the first signal to the satellite, which then sent the centre a reception notice. Some 15 engineers from Libya and other African Union countries will handle the first African telecommunication satellite's maintenance and control.
