UN envoy to begin planning new Western Sahara talks
2009-06-30
At a joint press conference with Moroccan Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri on Monday (June 29th), United Nations Western Sahara Envoy Christopher Ross said talks to prepare for the fifth round of negotiations would be announced soon, MAP reported. Ross, who met with officials in Algiers, Tindouf, Nouakchott and Rabat, said the meeting would "make a major contribution to the quest for a solution to the conflict that has lasted for too long". Ross's second tour to the region followed the UN Security Council resolution issued in April urging Morocco and the Polisario to achieve a "lasting and mutually acceptable political solution".
