UK to extradite Algerian millionaire Khelifa
2009-06-26
The British Justice Ministry on Thursday (June 25th) approved Algeria's request for the extradition of corrupt tycoon Abdelmoumen Rafik Khalifa, a UK resident since 2003, local and international press reported. In its decision, the London court said it had verified Khelifa's ability to receive a fair trial in Algeria. In 2007, a Blida court sentenced Khalifa in absentia to life in prison on fraud charges surrounding Algeria's largest-ever financial scandal. He is also wanted in France on embezzlement charges and for alleged involvement in the collapse of Khalifa Airways, Antinéa Airlines and Khalifa Rent-a-Car.
