Marrakech voters elect female mayor

Moroccan voters on Monday (June 22nd) elected the country's first female mayor of a major city, local and international press reported. Fatima Zahra Mansouri, a 33-year-oold lawyer, defeated veteran incumbent Omar Jazouli in the Marrakech mayoral election to become only the second-ever woman mayor in Morocco. Mansouri was nominated by the Party for Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), which swept the June 12th communal elections.
