Mauritanian ex-president, PM to formally step down

Under terms of the Senegal-led accord signed June 2nd by Mauritanian political rivals, deposed Mauritanian President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and former Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghf are expected to officially resign Wednesday, Le Quotidien de Nouakchott reported on Tuesday (June 16th). The ceremony at the Mauritanian congressional palace will include the appointment of Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf as Prime Minister and the signing of the decree for the formation of the "National Unity Transitional Government". Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio arrived Monday to oversee preparations for the event, which Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade is expected to attend.
