Morocco reports first case of swine flu

2009-06-12

Morocco detected its first case of H1N1 swine flu in Morocco on Thursday (June 11th), local and international press reported. According to the Health Ministry, an 18-year-old student in Montreal arrived Wednesday in Casablanca and then boarded a Royal Air Maroc flight to Fez. The current condition of the girl is stable. Morocco in late April launched preventive measures against a potential influenza outbreak, including the placement of fever detectors at international airports.

In related news Thursday, the World Health Organisation raised the alert level for the swine flu virus, announcing a "global pandemic" for the first time in 40 years, Babnet Tunisie reported.
