2009-03-06
Some 160,000 policemen will be mobilised to secure the April 9th presidential elections, Tout sur l'Algerie quoted National Security Director Ali Tounsi as saying on Thursday (March 5th). The announcement confirmed a previous statement from Interior Minister Yazid Zerhouni that a special security unit would protect candidates and polling stations. Earlier this week, security services said bomb detectors, scanners and dogs would be deployed and that particular attention would be given to the Boumerdes region.
