2009-02-20
Workers' Party (PT) chief Louisa Hanoune formally announced her intention Thursday (February 19th) to run in Algeria's April 9th presidential elections, local press reported. This will be her second try; in 2004, Hanoune became the first Algerian woman to run for president. Algerian National Front (FNA) President Moussa Touati was the first presidential contender to qualify for the upcoming elections by gathering the necessary number of signatures. The final list of candidates will be announced on March 6th.
