Mauritania junta leader downplays AU sanctions

Mauritania junta leader General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz downplayed the impact of sanctions imposed by the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council last week, AMI reported on Tuesday (February 10th). Since junta members do not have financial holdings in other African nations or in Europe, Aziz said, the sanction of freezing their assets has no effect.
In related news, the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) decided Tuesday (February 10th) in Rabat to send observers to the June 6th presidential election in Mauritania, ANI reported.
