Mauritania's HATEM members resign

At least 57 members of the pro-junta Mauritanian Party of Union for Change (HATEM), including the party's vice-president, members of the executive board, standing committee and national council, have quit the party, local press quoted a party statement as saying on Sunday (January 25th) in Nouakchott. The former members set up a new group, the Patriotic Sphere of Influence, which they say is open to dialogue with all political forces and favours democracy.
