Deposed Mauritanian president barred from entering capital

Mauritanian security forces stopped deposed president Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi in Wad Naga (50 km from Nouakchott) on Thursday (January 21st) and told him that his large motorcade could not enter the capital city. ANI reported. "He decided that he was not completely free and decided to return to his native village Lemden, "AFP quoted Abdallahi's spokesman as saying.
Elsewhere on Thursday, Mauritania's Alternative Party nominated former government minister Mohamed Yehdi Ould Moctar Hacen as its candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
