Algeria's RCD party opts out of upcoming presidential election

2009-01-16

Algeria's Rally for Culture and Democracy party (RCD) announced on Thursday (January 15th) that it would not participate in the presidential election next April. "Participating in such a competition would be tantamount to complicity in an operation of national humiliation," AFP quoted RCD President Said Sadi as saying during a party conference in Algiers. In a statement published by Tout sur l'Algerie and carried on the party's website, he called the election "this pathetic and dangerous circus". RCD was the only political party to oppose abolishing the mandatory presidential term limit.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you. About the non participation of the party of Rally for Absurdity and Bureaucracy in the coming presidential elections, if you observe all its participation in the municipal, legislative or presidential elections, it is always at the bottom of the rankings, even in its home in the region of Kabylie. Its non-participation in the elections is just an attempt to save its face for its desperate and miserable participation, not as it claims that there is falsification. Algeria is the only country in which there is fairness.

Said Saadi’s unpopularity is what pushed them to boycott. He knows that among his own, he is not popular.
