Regional conference on death penalty opens in Algiers

A regional conference on penal reform and the UN resolution calling for a moratorium on the death penalty opened Monday (January 12th) in Algiers. The event is organised by the National Consultative Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (CNCPPDH) and Penal Reform International (PRI). "It is high time to open debate on death penalty abolition in Algeria and its replacement by alternative sentences," APS quoted CNCPPDH Chairman Farouk Ksentini as telling forum participants.
