2008-10-13
In its annual report for the Algerian government, the National Advisory Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (CNCPPDH) called for the abolition of the death penalty and the decriminalisation of press offenses, Echorouk reported on Sunday (October 12th). "Prisons are not made at all for journalists," committee chairman Rafik Ksentini said, adding that journalists convicted of committing a crime while practicing their profession should instead be penalised with a fine.
