France, Tunisia sign three accords
2008-04-29
French President Nicolas Sarkozy signed a civilian nuclear deal with his Tunisian counterpart Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on Monday (April 28th) during a three-day state visit to Tunisia. The deal provides for the training of engineers and the promotion of nuclear energy for civilian purposes. France agreed to provide technical assistance in developing a nuclear power plant within the next 15 to 20 years, TAP reported. The two countries also signed framework agreements on the joint management of immigration issues and economic co-operation between the two countries.
Sarkozy praised Tunisia's counter-terrorism efforts and told reporters that he would not be giving lessons on human rights. He added that Tunisia had made advances in granting more personal freedoms.
